John the Apostle
John 3:22BSB·traditional attribution

After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the Judean countryside, where He spent some time with them and baptized.

William Burkitt Anglican

Our Lord showed unwearied diligence, moving from place to place preaching and baptizing through His disciples, for none are above ordinances until heaven. Observe John the Baptist's admirable humility: though the crowds now followed Christ and his success eclipsed John's, John kept faithfully to his duty. This is what God's ministers must do when others of greater gifts arise.
