But there is forgiveness with you, therefore you are feared.

C.H. Spurgeon Reformed Baptist

But there is forgiveness with thee. Blessed but. Free, full, sovereign pardon is in the hand of the great King: it is his prerogative to forgive, and he delights to exercise it. Because his nature is mercy, and because he has provided a sacrifice for sin, therefore forgiveness is with him for all that come to him confessing their sins.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian

In the deepest trouble, even the depths of despair, a prayer may reach heaven. Cry to God; it is the likeliest way to prevent sinking lower and to recover us from the horrible pit. But we must also humble ourselves before His justice, acknowledging we cannot answer Him for one of a thousand of our offences.

Keil & Delitzsch Lutheran

The depths are not mere spiritual distress but deep outward affliction where the poet sinks as in waters. He cries importunately for God's hearing, though God hears all things by nature; faith requires the prayer itself. If God preserved iniquities and kept them in remembrance, nothing could stand against His punitive justice, yet He does not act with such legal stringency.
