Proverbs 3:13WEB·traditional attribution

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.

Keil & Delitzsch Lutheran

Wisdom is submission to God, the All-wise, the All-directing who loves us with fatherly care; and such wisdom surpasses all treasures. The man who finds her trades away everything else for her possession, as the merchant parts with all he has for the pearl of great price. Pearls and gold cannot match her worth.

Commenting on Proverbs 3:13-14

John Gill Reformed Baptist

By wisdom here I mean Christ Himself, and a saving knowledge of Him through His Gospel. Finding Him supposes seeking Him, which grace must work in us; it means possessing Him by faith in the covenant of grace, in His Word, in His promises, in the ordinances where He shows Himself. No mere reason or law can discover Him, only the Spirit's revelation. This finding overflows in inexpressible joy.
