Matthew
Matthew 26:13KJV·traditional attribution

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

John Calvin Reformed

Christ praises her action precisely because the gospel will vindicate it everywhere, not the private opinion of men. The disciples condemned what strangers throughout the world will applaud, a gentle reproof of their small faith in His future reign, and a testimony that the gospel is meant for all nations, on which our salvation rests.

John Gill Reformed Baptist

This gospel centres chiefly on His death, burial, and resurrection, the atonement that satisfies justice, fulfills the law, and destroys death itself. Wherever it is preached to all the world, this woman's faith, love, and gratitude will be told for her memorial, the memory of the just being blessed and everlasting.

Verse 13. A memorial. Anything to produce remembrance. This should be told to her honour and credit, as a memorial of her piety and self-denial; and it is right that the good deeds of the pious should be recorded and had in recollection.
