Jeremiah
Jeremiah 29:11KJV·traditional attribution

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

John Calvin Reformed

God labors with many words because our minds are broken, we swing between despair and foolish pride, and neither extreme yields to anything but His Spirit ruling us. The Jews laughed at His threats, thought themselves secure, then when exile came they clung to false prophets promising quick return, deaf to His servants who told them seventy years would pass before deliverance. He speaks at length of future redemption because they could not endure the patience He commanded.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian

These false prophets deceive you with lies spoken in God's name, yet by the word of truth you may undeceive yourselves if you will. The dreams they offer are dreams you desired, dreams you caused to be dreamed, for you love to be flattered, and when you speak smoothly to your prophets, they speak smoothly back to you. Do not build your hope on their foundation; build instead on what God Himself now gives you.

Commenting on Jeremiah 29:8-14

John Gill Reformed Baptist

God knows the thoughts He thinks toward you, purposes of His heart for your welfare, known to Him alone and certain to be performed, for He does not forget as men do. These are thoughts of peace, not evil; of your temporal restoration and spiritual reconciliation through Christ's blood and death. Whatever evil befalls you, He means for good, consistent with His unchangeable love; He can think no otherwise of you.
