Moses
Exodus 40:23KJV·traditional attribution

And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses.

Don't wait to be settled before you worship God. A tabernacle in the wilderness is more needful than a palace later; our carcases may fall here, and we may be fixed in another world before we come to fix in this. Moses obeyed every particular in the order God appointed, repeating his obedience seven times over: not adding, not diminishing, not varying in the least punctilio.

And he lighted the lamps before the Lord,.... The seven lamps belonging to it: this, though it was the business of the priests of Aaron, and his sons, yet they not being at present invested with their office, was done by Moses, who in this and several other things mentioned in this chapter officiated as a priest: as the Lord commanded Moses, Exo 25:37.

The table stood on the north side of the front room, the candlestick opposite on the south, and the golden altar centered before the curtain of the holy place. The shew-bread was arranged in two rows upon the table according to its measure, and everything was set in place according to the pattern God had shown.
