Luke
Acts 20:9KJV·traditional attribution

And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

John Calvin Reformed

Do not blame the young man harshly for drowsiness when the night was far spent and he had fought sleep so long, he did not choose to sit there and doze, but was overcome by nature's infirmity, no fault of his own. The Lord worked both the sleep and the death to awaken faith in His people, that they might receive Paul's doctrine with joy and hold it fast.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian

The disciples gathered on the first day of the week because they must worship God together, not alone; this is their constant custom in all the churches. The Lord's day belongs to Christ and testifies to His resurrection; it is the court-day of our King, where all His tenants owe suit and service.

Commenting on Acts 20:7-12

John Gill Reformed Baptist

Paul went down at once, either seeing the fall or moved by the Spirit, and fell upon the young man, embracing and praying over him as Elijah and Elisha had done. His life returned through the apostle's petition, and Paul could declare with full assurance that the soul was restored in him.
