David
Psalm 55:16ESV·superscription

But I call to God, and the LORD will save me.

John Calvin Reformed

16 I will call upon God. In translating this verse I have retained the future tense of the verb, as the Psalmist does not refer to something already done, but rather excites himself to the duty of prayer, and to the exercise of hope and confidence.

C.H. Spurgeon Reformed Baptist

As for me, I will call upon God. The psalmist would not endeavour to meet the plots of his adversaries by counterplots, or imitate their incessant violence, but in direct opposition to their godless behaviour would continually resort to his God. Thus Jesus did, and it has been the wisdom of all believers to do the same.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian

Whoever calls on the Lord in a right manner shall be saved. Pray fervently, with all that is within you, and pray often: evening, morning, and at noon. Those who neglect acquaintance with God until trouble comes lose the benefit of constant practice; the wheels of prayer must be already turning when distress finds you.
