Matthew
Matthew 20:11ESV·traditional attribution

And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house,

John Gill Reformed Baptist

The murmurers grudge that men hired but one hour should receive equal wages with those who labored all day. This very complaint appears in Jewish tradition itself: a laborer who works but two or three hours receives a perfect reward like those who toiled the whole day, and the rest press Him with difficulty. Here the burden is the Jewish rites and ceremonies, grievous and intolerable to carnal hearts.
