Moses
Exodus 30:15BSB·traditional attribution

In making the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives, the rich shall not give more than a half shekel, nor shall the poor give less.

Matthew Henry Presbyterian

God did not pour all these precepts out at once on the mountain, but gave them in intervals, as Moses could receive and record them. This half-shekel tax shows that rich and poor are equally precious to the Lord: neither more nor less demanded, because souls have no price distinction before Him.

Commenting on Exodus 30:11-16

John Gill Reformed Baptist

The half-shekel flat rate proves all Israelites stand equal before God; their worldly stations matter nothing. Every soul requires the same ransom price because all sin is infinite when committed against an infinite God. One price ransoms all: the precious blood of Christ.
