David
Psalm 16:7ASV·superscription

I will bless Jehovah, who hath given me counsel; Yea, my heart instructeth me in the night seasons.

C.H. Spurgeon Reformed Baptist

Bless the Lord who has given you counsel, as Christ blessed His Father for direction. Jesus sought guidance on the mountain at night, and we must do the same: cease trusting your own understanding and let God's Spirit lead you. The inner man grows wisdom in those still hours if you have first learned from God.

The measuring lines have fallen for him in a charming district: the pleasurable fellowship of God Himself, that most blessed domain of love, his paradisaic possession. From this fact he rises to perfect contentment. Such a heritage seems fair to him, a source of inward pleasure and satisfaction, because the giver and the gift are one and the same.
