Luke
Luke 6:46ASV·traditional attribution
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
William Burkitt Anglican
Our Saviour here concludes his sermon with an elegant similtude: he compares the faithful doer of the word to a wise builder, which grounded his house upon a rock. Others he resembles to a foolish builder, that built his house upon the sand.
Matthew Henry Presbyterian
Judge not, that you be not judged; condemn not, that you be not condemned. Show to others the mercy you need yourself, and God will show mercy to you; the merciful to others' names shall find others merciful to theirs. Forgive, give liberally, and it shall be given back into your bosom.
